November 2010 - Peter Waddington

November 21st saw us entertain our first speaker of this winter, and who better to start off with than the man acceredited for bringing Koi to the UK in the first place - Peter Waddington.

Peter WaddingtonWith a good crowd of members in attendance as well as a couple of people that came along specifically to listen to Peter speak, who received a typically warm CKC welcome, the projector was set up and Peter and Hillary were welcomed by our club chairman Dave Pope.

After Dave gave a breif explantion of exactly who Peter was for the few in the room that weren't aware, Peter started on his presentation by explaining what he thought was the main reason people left the hobby over time, Sandpaper Skin, Hikui and Shimmies.

His presentation showed us the different ways in which the Japanese breeders looked after their Koi filtration systems and explained that the '3 big downers' are never seen in these Japanese systems, posing the question of why this was.

This led to a good amount of interaction between Peter and attending membership with many questions being both posed and answered.

On behalf of the entire club we'd like to thank Peter for taking time out to come and visit us at the CKC and give us an insightful and thought provoking talk.

We look forward to welcoming Peter back to Cambridgshire in the near furture .
